Description
Explore the remote reserve of Ankarana with three days of trekking through unique tsingy landscapes, rainforests and semi arid vegetation. Visit bat cave with it’s impressive limestone formations and watch the bats circle the cane entrance at dusk. Following your trek fly across to the tropical paradise of Nosy Be for three days of relaxation on the beach. Visit the vibrant markets in Ambataloaka and Helville and snorkel the marine reserve of Tanikely.
Sample Itinerary
Day 1:
Arrive Madagascar and transfer to the airport guesthouse for your overnight stay.
Day 2:
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Diego Suez. Upon arrival you will be met by your guide and transfer to the Ankarana National Park. There you will set up camp and enjoy a short afternoon hike to Bat cave. The cave is home to several species of bats the largest of which is the fruit bat. In the inner chambers there are spectacular limestone formations. Be sure to take your head torch along for the excursion.
Day 3:
Todays route is long and will entail approximately 10 hours of walking in total up to Lac Vert and the Grand Tsingy. The route takes you through several varying types of rain forest vegetation where lemurs can be spotted in the trees above. Bird life is also prolific. A tough hike but extremely rewarding. Return to the camp at dusk for a well deserved rest.
Day 4:
Today you have a choice of two circular routes which are approximately 3-4 hours in length. Explore the Tsingy and the hanging bridge circuit for some fantastic photographic opportunities.
Day 5:
Pack up camp and transfer back to Diego Suez in time for your afternoon flight to Nosy Be. Upon arrival in Nosy Be transfer to the Les boucaniers Hotel where you will be staying for the next three nights. The days are at leisure to enjoy the beach, markets or go on snorkeling or diving excursions.
Day 8:
Transfer to the airport for your flight back to Antananarivo. Depart from Madagascar and return home.
