Sample Itinerary

Day 1:
Arrive in Nairobi from your international destination. Once you’ve collected your luggage and cleared customs, transfer to Wilson Airport for your flight to Kiwaiyu. The flight departs Nairobi at approximately 13h55, arriving in Kiwaiyu at 15h00. You will be met at the airstrip by the expedition leader and will drive north along the coast through the remote and wild Dodori Reserve. The backup dhow will collect you and transport you to your first nights camp on one of the many picturesque and uninhabited islands.

Day 2 – 4/7:
You itinerary over the next few days will depend on the length of your stay and the prevailing weather conditions. The days will be spent slowly paddling south through islands, reefs and mangrove channels. En route you will get to experience the amazing marine life, multitudes of water birds and underwater reefs. You will also pass some local villages and be able to watch the local dhows set sail for the daily task of fishing. Depending on the time of year you may witness turtle hatchlings, flocks of roseate terns, inquisitive dolphins and curious land animals. The distance paddled each day is approximately 10kms and routes are chosen so that you have minimal bay crossings and exposure to significant currents or swells.

Day 5 / 7:
Finishing up with your kakaying yo transfer off the islands back to mainland and then drive south to Kiwaiyu airstrip. The returning flight departs at 15h20, arriving at Nairobi Wilson airport at 17h55. In Nairobi transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International airport for your flight home.
