Description

Madagascar's calm tropical waters make kayaking one of the best ways to explore the coastline. Spend the days paddling on a crystal clear turquoise sea while the tender boat accompanies you with your luggage and food supplies. When you want to take a break simply tie your kayak behind the boat and settle in on the bow for a relaxing cruise. En route you will stop at spectacular reefs where you can snorkel, white sandy beaches, and friendly local villages where you can bargain for some hand crafted souvenirs.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1:
Depart from Johannesburg on your flight to Antananarivo in Madagascar. Upon arrival connect with your flight to Nosy Be. Transfer to the guesthouse in Hellville where you will be staying overnight. Enjoy dinner at one of the excellent local restaurants in the town.

Day 2:
After breakfast transfer to the harbor and load your luggage on board the tender boat. After a short briefing to familiarize yourself with the kayaks, set out across the bay to the island of Tanikely. Stopping at this pristine marine reserve enjoy snorkeling above the colourful reefs. After your break, load the kayaks onto the boat and cruise across to Mahalina. It's nice to paddle the last stretch into the cove when you arrive. Accommodation is in rustic beach bungalows.  

Day 3:
After coffee and rusks set out for your first paddle of the day. After an hour or two dock the kayaks and climb on board the tender boat to enjoy a delicious breakfast. Let your breakfast settle and enjoy cruising for a while before getting back on the kayaks and paddling some more. This is characteristic of the daily program for the duration of the tour. Stay overnight in beach bungalows at Russian Bay.

Day 4:
Proceed on the daily kayak program. Overnight stop is a beach camp near Maratoni.

Day 5:
Continue down the coast. Overnight stop is a beach camp near Barmame.

Day 6:
Kayak by day and overnight in a beach camp near Alotzika.

Day 7:
The next three nights will be spent at beach bungalows near Kalakajoro. You can visit the local villages, take leisurely walks on the beach or doze off in a hammock under the trees.

Day 10:
Paddle part of the way to visit the island of Iranja. In the afternoon the wind will ensure you have a swift cruise back to Russian Bay. Stay overnight in beach bungalows at Russian Bay.

Day 11:
Paddle and cruise across to Lokobe reserve on Nosy Be. Here you day enjoy a day of exploring the rainforest reserve. Stay overnight in a permanent tented camp.

Day 12:
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Antananarivo and then on to Johannesburg.
